The Woodlands, TX - April 11, 2003 - Vic Cherubini and the artists, animators, and programmers at the epic software group were named as the Honorees for the 7th Annual Pulmonary Hypertension Association Golf Tournament & Dinner/Auction held at the Fish Creek Golf Club. Jack Stibbs, Chairman for the event said, "Vic and his team at the epic software group have helped the parents, families, doctors, sponsors, caregivers, and the
PH Association by creating an interactive CD-ROM that is truly the Encarta of information about this disease. For their efforts we are truly grateful."
At the event, Vic said:
"Today we come together for a truly worthy cause - to raise money for a disease I know can be cured. Thirteen years ago when 4 women came together to start the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, there were fewer than 200 diagnosed cases in the U.S. There were no treatments then so it was an illness easy to ignore. Today that is changing...and changing fast. While many doctors still know little about pulmonary hypertension, many are beginning to learn. Advances in research and new treatments are extending life and hope. The creation last year of the first medical journal dedicated to PH is educating over 30,000 doctors each quarter to an illness that will no longer be ignored. I am proud to be helping the same organization, the organization we are all here supporting tonight - the Pulmonary Hypertension Association - produce electronic materials that I hope add to their awareness-building efforts.
More patients are being diagnosed. Better treatments are becoming available. While can celebrate the advances made in the fight against Pulmonary Hypertension, we still have a great deal of work ahead of us. Through the diligent efforts of the medical community, dedicated volunteers, and loving families and friends, real progress is being made everyday.
It is my hope that we use today's event to advance our work, at the community level, by supporting the PH Association and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute in their research efforts against this deadly disease. Thank you for your commitment to this cause. Your generous support can help us find a cure sooner rather than later.
