When FutureWave (later Macromedia, now Adobe) dreamed up what we all have come to know as Flash, they must have been thinking about the epic software group. For us, it was love at first sight. We knew this program had the potential to take over the web, so in 2000 when Prima Press asked us to write about it, we did in our book Flash 5 from Concept to Creation. As the program has grown and expanded in both features and functions, so our ability to use this tool to create digital magic.

Today the Adobe Flash player is everywhere, but it has become more complex. Wild Well Control Kill Sheet Intro
Wild Well Control is best known for their firefighting, well control and related engineering services. When the world has a blowout, Wild Well often gets the call. Recently the company added training to its list of services and has the most advanced simulator system available worldwide. One thing that separates them from the competition is their Interactive Kill Sheet program. This very complex program helps a well technician if the pressure in a formation is reaching a critical point, and if so, alerts them to shut down production. To introduce the Kill Sheet, the company had epic create an animated introduction that launches the software application.

There is no doubt the computations taking place in the Wild Well Killsheet program involve some pretty heavy number crunching. But what actually do those numbers represent? To visually bring the story to life, Wild Well had us create a scenario that show the relationship between mud downhole, and in the mud tank above ground as the pressure on the column changes. Not understanding this important relationship can lead to costly delays, and even the possibility of a blowout.

Uretek Interactive Capabilities Guide
Uretek wanted a way to show clients the many ways their pavement leveling technology is used throughout a city. Epic created a 3D virtual city for the company, with hot spots to show exactly where and how their products are used. You can select from the menu, or directly from the cityscape to see how.

Most web sites these days feature some kind of Flash presentation to communicate key information about their company, products or services. When we created the web site for the Kawasaki Gas Turbines division of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, we determined that the four key selling points for the company were: Kawasaki Craftsmanship, Quality Control second to none, a Houston, Texas Packaging Plant, Power You Can Count On. The Flash application on the home page tells that story in words and pictures.
